Exhibit-based Learning - Galileo's World: Bringing Worlds Together, Coming 2015-16

To celebrate OU’s 125th anniversary, the Galileo’s World exhibition connects the story of Galileo with the University of Oklahoma. Because of OU Libraries and the Galileo collection, the story of Galileo is part of every student’s & researcher’s experience at OU. Now, just as the Library serves the entire university, so the Galileo’s World exhibition will showcase the entire University, connecting our worlds across time and space. Galileo’s World will be an Exhibition without Walls: distributed across 7 locations, including three University of Oklahoma campuses; comprised of more than 20 galleries; and featuring more than 300 rare books, historical instrument replicas, and various interactive digital resources. Joint exhibitions will occur at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art, the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History, and the National Weather Center. Galileo’s World will engage adults, university classes, and school groups, across a broad spectrum of interests in the natural sciences, engineering and humanities. Direct connections to the exhibit will be appreciated by anyone with an interest in physics, astronomy, science and music, science and art, science and religion, science and literature, science and politics, manuscripts and printing history, geology, botany, zoology, microscopy, and all branches of engineering and mathematics. The Galileo's World exhibition connects the past and the future, from Greek mathematics to the space age. Galileo’s World connects the natural sciences to other cultural endeavors including music, the visual arts, literature, philosophy, religion and popular culture. Galleries devoted to Galileo and Islamic science, Galileo and China, and to Galileo and America, suggest the breadth of the exhibition. Learn about programming opportunities, how to participate, and how to incorporate the exhibit into your courses.
